What to do when a wisdom bomb goes off.

Alright my list lovers.

Apparently this is not going to be your standard blog….Your friendly “every Wednesday at 10am” newsletter that kindly makes its way into your inbox.

Late night boogie.

No, I’m the Friday night at 3am kinda gal. The girlfriend that calls you in the middle of the night, burning with excitement to tell you about the amazing night she just had. The huge insight that just ripped her open. The hot, thought-encounter that just shook her world.

The wisdom bomb that just went off.

Yep, it’s been one of those nights. One of those nights when you dance your ass off and, right there, right smack in the middle of the dance floor, you have an insight that blows your mind.

An idea that shakes you up. As in, AWAKE. You get up. You rise in awareness to meet your mind and you say:

Whoa. Totally.

It changes your life, the way you see things. A perspective shift. A diamond insight.

Creativity emerges and you find yourself wanting – longing – to somehow, in some way, share this beauty, this truth with the world.

It could be in song or dance. It could be a painting, or a book. It could be a special, loving touch, a grand adventure, or a love filled gaze.
Or, as is often the case with myself and the women I serve, it could be via the spoken word.

Whatever it is, one thing’s for sure:
the nature of a wisdom bomb is this — once it’s received, it’s meant to be shared.

That’s how wisdom works.
That’s how it lives on and spills from mind, to mind, to mind.
That’s how we evolve.

But here’s where the trouble starts. Here’s where the suffering and the insanity begins:
We forget that sharing is its very nature, and we think we’re crazy, or not good enough, or too fat, or not pretty enough, or for sure, not smart enough, or not original enough, or far too imperfect, too young (or too old), not ready, or not worth enough to share our wisdom with the world.

And instead of the blossoming balm of a wisdom bomb exploding in the world and igniting hearts and minds far & wide, we suffer the implosion of wisdom left to die inside.

This is tragic. A tragedy. A travesty unto one’s self.

In not speaking up and sharing what has moved and transformed us (and what is aching to be shared with others), we stop the natural flow of love, wisdom, and healing.

It hurts. It hurts our selves. It hurts our world.

So, to you, my dear list lover, I say to you this: let your wisdom bombs shine. Let your insights emerge. Let your voice ring out, and share the gift of your brilliance with us all.

We are waiting for you.

All my love,
KC

From total fear to totally owning it: Jessica Libbey takes the stage.

One day in the middle of May 2011,  a young woman by the name of Jessica Libbey walked into my office. I had met Jessica two weeks prior at an event where I had been a guest speaker.

Jessica called me on the phone after the event and shared that -  more than anything in the world – she wanted to get out there and speak to women about loving their bodies and themselves, and to tell her story.

But more than anything in the world, she was terrified of speaking publicly.

“Can you help?” she asked.

I was moved by the passion and conviction I felt in her, and found myself seated across from her in my office two weeks later.

After connecting for a bit, I had her stand at the front of the room. I asked her to simply introduce herself and to share her story about becoming a nutritional consultant.

Standing there in front of me, she crumpled. Face red. Tears streaming. Body shaking.

It was so intense for her to be seen and heard like this.

But the calling she felt inside to give of her voice and wisdom to this world, and to truly serve on great, far reaching levels, was so much larger than the powerful embarrassment and fear that had been holding her back for so long.

She enrolled in my School for The Well-Spoken Woman LIVE! program, where she wrote the speech her voice has been longing to give and worked alongside 8 other women to prepare, refine and deliver her talk to a live audience of women this last September.

I am delighted – actually, thrilled is more like it – to share with you the truly remarkable speech that she gave that night. (Below)

Jessica is a natural.

She learned how to reframe the fear and the intensity of feeling and sensation inside and see it for what it really is: pure power. This lady has found the freedom to share her voice with the world, and with such grace and eloquence.

Since that night, she’s landed multiple speaking gigs, is in talks with Whole Foods to be a part of their speaker and trainer program, and is building her business as a result.

And most of all, she’s having fun on stage.  It’s a far cry from that day in May…

With pleasure and such pride, I present to you one of my star students: Jessica Libbey.

When the woman boldly speaking up is your mother. (And it makes you cry. In a good way.)

Me as a wee baby with my mom. On vacation in Mexico, 1977.

One day when I was 13 years old, I played hooky from school and thought I was home alone. But I was wrong. Sitting in my room, I heard the strangest sound coming from downstairs. It was the sound of the piano playing and a woman singing. I crept downstairs and was surprised – shocked, in fact – to discover that the beautiful sound emanating from the living room was coming from my mother.

Something within me knew to hide there in the stairwell, and not show that I was there listening. I had never heard her sing before. I felt moved by the beauty of it. And I felt deeply sad because I realized that this was something she never shared with other people.

I grew up as part of a legacy of women who hid the beauty and wisdom of their voices. Finding the freedom and the deep willingness to share my voice with the world, and to transform the fear, shame and self-doubt that has enshrouded my voice for years, has been my crucible.  As a result, I have been perfectly designed to support other women in finding their own freedom to speak up and shine, and this service has uncorked a well-spring of joy within myself that has utterly rocked my world in the last year.

Mama-Daughter Love. Oak Creek, Sedona. Summer 2011.

No where has this been more true than with one of my exceptional “students” from 2011.

During one hot and glorious day together in Sedona this summer, it melted my heart and made me smile so much my face hurt when my mother, nearing 70 years of age and recently widowed, announced that it was time for her to share her voice with the world. And wouldn’t public speaking be the perfect place to start?

Turns out, I was launching my very first group public speaking program for women that August.

This video I’m sharing with you today (at the end of this post)  is the truly epic speech my mother, Marty Baker Williams, gave at the culmination of that program this past September, The School for The Well-Spoken Woman LIVE

Wild standing ovation at the end of my mom's speech. Not a dry eye in the house.

I sat in the wings that night, watching her, crying my eyes out, feeling my heart soar, as I listened to my mother speak about growing up in “the silent generation” of women, and the journey she has been on to be her full, authentic self. I heard her share things I have never heard her say or share before. It was as if I was really beginning to know her…. And not as just my mother, but as a fellow woman.

I realized deep down in my bones that night, during the thunderous standing ovation at the end of her speech, that the legacy of the women of my heritage just changed: We have become a lineage of fully expressed, fully “given”, and utterly well-spoken women.

My charge to you reading this here today is to contemplate the following:

What must you say in this one precious life you have?

What must you be a stand for in this world?

How will you crank the volume up on your voice in this legendary year of 2012?

What woman can you support in also getting her voice and message out there this year?

The quickest route to discovering the freedom to speak up is to turn to another woman and encourage her to do the same. This is how we find the willingness and the courage to boldly share our voices and change the world as a result:

We do it together.

As the Shambhala Tibetan Buddists say in their meditation prayers,
“May all beings enjoy profound brilliant glory.”

I just can’t think of a more awesome, fabulous prayer.

May 2012 shock the hell out of you in the best possible ways,
and may you discover untold realms of glory and deep satisfaction from boldly sharing your voice with this world.

To you and your voice,

KC

Let’s end this Silent War between Women.

Hey Friends!
I’m psyched. The video for my keynote speech at the first EVER School for The Well-Spoken Woman LIVE! is here!

In this speech, where I welcome the first graduating class (!!!), I share what the fear of public speaking REALLY is (it’s way more fabulous than you have ever imagined, so don’t miss seeing 05:52).

I also expose this nasty, totally un-fun “silent war between women” that I believe is the real culprit behind women feeling afraid to seriously step it up and shine. (The wisdom bomb begins at 08:25. Can you relate to this?)

But worry not! I also share how to properly, wildly celebrate the women in your life in totally rockin’ it, and in doing so, change the world. (I even give Standing Ovation Training (15:00)….You’ll see from this video how absolutely FANTASTIC this audience is at supporting the women who are about to come on stage and give their first public speeches.)

Public speaking has never been so fun:) Watch out world!

And be sure to get on the list up above to the right to receive my free video training!

All my love,
KC
